City marks centenary of the end of World War I

Ceremonies and concerts will take place over several days

This year, among other anniversaries, is 100 years since the end of World War I. Several separate memorial events will take place across the city. World War I ended Nov. 11, 1918, at 11 am.

A memorial concert by the Central Music Academy of the Czech Army will be held at the Rudolfinum on Nov. 8, featuring opera singer Lucie Silkenová and musical singer Vlasta Horváth. Lieutenant Colonel Jaroslav Šíp and Major Patrik Spinka will conduct.

The Prague 2 district will host a Veterans Day (Den válečných veteránů) celebration Nov. 9 at náměstí Míru, The program begins at 2 pm and will include participation by the Czech Army, music and historical films. The program will end in a prayer.

There is also a music festival at several locations. At náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad on Nov. 9, there is an event called Bruder/Bratři with Dutch and other bands that will explore music as the universal language.

Cross Club will have music on Nov. 10 and 11 under the banner Peace No War with live music from Flying Mojito Brothers, Ben Osbourne and other live musicians plus DJs.

This festival ends with a closing party on Dec. 2 at Lucerna.

Prague 3 will on Nov. 10 from 1 pm to 5 pm will have a military camp display in front of FC Viktoria Žižkov stadium, complete with a field kitchen.

On Nov. 11 at 1 pm in Olšanské hřbitovy at the field of the World War I graves at there will be a ceremony with Czech officials and guests.

A separate ceremony with a wreath-laying overseen by the British Embassy will take place at the Commonwealth War Graves in Olšanské hřbitovy on Nov. 11 at 10:50 am.

The biggest memorial event will be Nov. 11 at 11 am at the National Monument at Vítkov, attended by Defense Ministry, Army, political and diplomatic officials. The ceremony will involve the laying of wreaths and awarding of medals. Usually, there is a flyover of military jets.
