Náplavka to see more family events

The farmers market is already reopened and in its 10th year

City Hall plans to continue revitalizing Náplavka this year. City Councilor Jan Chabr (United Force for Prague) also wants to support more public events that would attract families with children not only during the summer months but also in the winter.

The traditional farmers market has already started again at Rašínovo nábřeží, for example, and Chabr says this is typical of what he wants to see there. The marker is open on Saturdays from 8 am to 2 pm.

The farmers market celebrates its 10th year, and people can buy not only fresh food, but, for example, sausages cooked on a fire right in the center of Prague.

“I also want to highlight the efforts of the organizers toward ecological thinking. Even returnable cups or a discount when you bring your own tray is a way to contribute to change for the better, which we are trying to do at Náplavka,” Chabr said.

Rašínovo nábřeží was renovated in 2018, with work done to 12 cubicles set into the stone retaining walls. Most of these rooms had long been disused and inaccessible to the general public. Some of the rooms will be turned into cafes and galleries. Other rooms will be turned into public bathrooms. New benches and waste containers are also part of the plan.

“This year, the revitalization of Náplavka will continue, and that will be good news. Prague’s waterfronts are places that should mainly serve the public, and people should not just walk through empty embankments. I will do even more to encourage Prague to promote various events such as farmers markets or food trucks,” Chabr said.

“We will not only revive the center, but we will offer the Praguers more opportunity to spend time in a pleasant environment on the banks of the Vltava river,” he added.

The second phase of the renovation, planned for 2019 and ’20, includes the construction of docks for boats, a floating spa, and other facilities directly on the water, according to information released last year. It is not clear if the new City Hall administration plans any changes to the project.

Having more events at Náplavka is not without controversy, as residents complain of the noise. A citizens group in Prague 2 protested the situation in 2017, and the Prague 2 administration at the time called for fewer events and a set of regulations.
