Legendy is this weekend

The large automobile show has some models making their Czech debuts

The Legendy car show is finally upon us, with over 1,000 new and historic vehicles on display during June 10 and 11 at the Psychiatric Hospital in Bohnice in Prague 8. Organizers expect tens of thousands people over the course of both days for what is the largest car, motorcycle and truck show of its type in the Czech Republic.

The first thing people will see when entering the main gate is Italian design, with top-end cars from Pagani, Maserati and Ferrari. German carmaker Mercedes is to the left of the main entrance, with one of the larger displays of models.

To the right of the entrance is Kia, which will be showing its Stinger, a new stylish model that takes some of its inspiration from the aerodynamic shape of a popular soda bottle, and has its roots in the Kia GT Concept car.

Heading a bit further into the grounds, one finds race cars by McLaren, with the 570S and 675LT models on display. Nearby are vehicles from Lamborghini, Porsche and Bentley. Aside from new models, the Lamborghini Miura, made between 1966 and 1972 will be shown.

Volvo also will be showing a sporty model, the S60 Polestar in a special turbocharged version capable of 367 horsepower.

British makers won't be overlooked. The Jaguar Land Rover is coming with the Range Rover Velar, a recently launched SUV that has earned praise from industry magazines for its outside style and interior design.

Czech carmaker Škoda will show its Octavia RS 245 and two new versions of the Kodiaq. The most powerful Octavia so far made its debut in Geneva in March. The Kodiaq is a new SUV line that was introduced in 2016. Other Volkswagen brands will also be at Legendy.

In one of the corners of the Bohnice grounds, US carmaker Ford will be presenting the new generation of Fiestas, as well a previous version of the popular car launched in 1976. For people who like a little more power, Ford will be showing is Mustang, with the 1967 Shelby 350 Eleanor model.

Subaru will have a retrospective of its Forester line, which celebrates its 20th year.

Fans of older cars can also look forward to displays of Czechoslovak vehicles, and other classics in the Veterans section of Bohnice. Some will participate in a rally.

More emphasis this year will go to children, with two kid's corners. One is sponsored by Aquapalace and will have inflated attractions, contests and a snack bar. The other is by Sherlog and will have contests and other activities. There are also safety lessons aimed at young people.

Racing will take place for young and old spectators alike. There will be autograph sessions on both days, and many racing stars will be behind the wheel as well presenting specific cars.

Jan Černý and Petr Černohorský will be driving the Škoda Fabia R5 on the race track. Petr Fulín, known by the nickname Fulda, will be driving as well. And it is not only cars. Buggyra trucks from the Dakar rally will be on the road.

There are also zones for off road and motocross, for people who want to participate rather than just look.
