Open days: First impressions that can last a lifetime

Prague British School Open Day on March 28th from 8:30 to 4p.m.

The Prague British School is holding an Open Day on March 28th from 8:30am to 4pm. at both Kamýk and Vlastina sides. The PBS Open day will provide visitors with an insight into life within the school. Research can be completed online and through study printed materials however in order to fully immerse yourself into the atmosphere it is encouraged to attend.

PBS welcomes families of all nationalities and offers British education within an international community. Every day over 900 pupils from almost 60 different countries attend PBS. This international environment is designed to give PBS students a head start in an increasingly global world.

The school, established in 1992 under the name British International School Prague (BISP), introduced the IGCSE programme back in 1996. In 2006 the school changed its name to Prague British School, at the time having 500 registered students. Most families joining PBS are moving to Prague from outside the Czech Republic and so established Open Days may not fit in with a hectic relocation schedule. However for Prague based families Open Days are a great way of experiencing a school for the first time.

A list of Open Day classes are published well in advance and are designed to show visitors the breadth and depth of learning at the school for children between the ages of 3 and 18. Expect a relaxed and informal atmosphere with a chance to speak with heads, teachers and admissions staff without making any commitment to enrolling a child. Guided tours will be on hand for visitors with a current student and there will also be an opportunity to meet with some of the current parents for coffee and a chat. The importance of open days cannot be understated when deciding your child’s future, as the school states.

“Whatever the Open Day format, this first visit to school is vital,” said Fraser Litster

“It can lead to a lasting and pivotal relationship and that’s what both schools and families are looking for. If the fit feels right, then further dates are arranged. Students come back for a taster day. That's the point at which children form a strong opinion about whether they want to come to PBS or not. Of course, many people visit Open Day simply out of curiosity and do not wish any immediate further contact from the school…… which is also fine!”
