Bill Murray films at Oko

The comedy star is celebrated with a wide ranging retrospective

While the news may be a bit depressing, Bio Oko is offering some escape. Films starring comic actor Bill Murray will play until Oct. 29.

“Bill Murray. Actor and comedian, we love to love. A transatlantic pop culture figure for half a century, he appears in over twenty thousand animated gifs on the Internet. Whether he dove like Steve Zissou, broke flowers with Jim Jarmusch, or was lost in Tokyo with Sofia Coppola, he brought a zany charm and honesty to movies that survive their own times and are worth watching again,” Bio Oko states.

“If anyone deserves a personality cult, it's this guy with his honey voice in roles cynical or completely nutty. Long live the Ghostbusters in New York and syllable hunters on the golf course! It was pure joy to select these nine films for you with such a starring icon,” the cinema adds.

The festival covers all aspects of Murray's career, with big hits like Ghostbusters and more dramatic roles like Broken Flowers and Coffee and Cigarettes, both directed by Jim Jarmusch. Another more dramatic role is Lost in Translation, a 2003 film by Sofia Coppola that is regarded as one of the best of that decade. Murray plays an aging actor in Tokyo to shoot some advertisements. He strikes up a friendship with a young woman (Scarlett Johansson) at his hotel.

There is also the rather obscure black comedy What About Bob, where Murray plays a mental patient who follows his psychiatrist (Richard Dreyfuss) on vacation.

Also on the schedule is the 1980 classic Caddyshack, with fellow comic actors Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, and Ted Knight. The film is about an escalating dispute on a golf course for rich people that leads to a big match.

Groundhog Day is another cult favorite, with the same day repeating over and over. Murray plays a weatherman trapped having to cover the same event until he can break the cycle. Andie MacDowell and Chris Elliott co-star.

Fans of director Wes Anderson won't want to miss The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, starring Murray as an aquatic explorer whose life is in crisis. The all-star cast includes Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Michael Gambon, Jeff Goldblum, Anjelica Huston, Owen Wilson.
