Czech Lion (Český lev) nominations announced
Some 51 films released in 2017 are eligible for the top Czech prizes

The Czech Film and Television Academy (ČFTA) announced the film nominations at the

Ice Mother is a romantic comedy about an isolated older woman who becomes interested in winter swimming after she meets an elderly man, who is also lonely. Barefoot takes place during World War 11, with a young city boy whose family relocates to a rural area. Milada is based on the Cold War–era show trial of Czechoslovak patriot Milada Horáková.
These films were followed by Little Crusader (Křižáček) by Václav Kadrnka with nine nominations, Filthy (Špína) by Tereza Nvotová and Quartette (Kvarteto) by Miroslav Krobot with eight nominations, and Garden Store: Family Friend (Zahradnictví: Rodinný přítel) with four nominations. The rest of the nominated films had one each.

The nominations for best documentary feature were Cervena (Červená) by Olga Sommerová, Czech Journal – The Limits of Work (Český žurnál – Hranice práce) by Apolena Rychlíková, Let Misik sing! (Nechte zpívat Mišíka) by Jitka Němcová, The Lust for Power (Mečiar) by Tereza Nvotová and The White World According to Daliborek (Svět podle Daliborka) by Vít Klusák.
The two TV categories, whose nominees were not yet announced, are Best Television Film or Miniseries and Best Television Drama Series. Czech Television, HBO Europe, TV Nova and TV Prima have submitted projects
The ČFTA presidium will also present an award for a Unique Contribution to Czech Film during the ceremonial gala evening.
The winners of two non-statutory awards were also announced at the ČFTA press conference. The award for the Best Film Poster was presented to Jiří Karásek and Lukáš Fišárek, the designers of the poster for the film Barefoot. Director Jan Svěrák obtained the Award of Film Fans, also for Barefoot.
The winners of the statutory categories of the 25th Czech Lion Awards will receive a new statuette that is being created in cooperation with Rückl glassworks. The crystal trophy will have a new look and the production will return to the glassworks in Nižbor.
The Czech Lions are the main Czech film awards and they have been presented since 1993. Films are evaluated based on the voting of the members of the Czech Film and Television Academy.
