Film Music Prague has three special events

raig Armstrong and Joe Hisaishi will present their work, plus an evening with Alien

The Film Music Prague 2017 program will have three events from April 20–23, appealing to a variety of tastes from romance to horror to Japanese animation.

The festival will kick off with a gala evening featuring a special guest, Scottish composer Craig Armstrong OBE, who will be present for a gala evening called A Story of Love on April 21 at Žofín Palace.

The program will feature music from the scores of Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby, Love Actually, World Trade Center, Victor Frankenstein, and Elizabeth: The Golden Age. It will be performed by Praga Sinfonietta & Vox Pragae, featuring soprano Christina Johnston and singer Tereza Černochová, and conducted by Miriam Němcová.

Armstrong has won BAFTA, Ivor Novello, Golden Globe and Grammy awards for his film work.

A multimedia show with music from the popular Alien movies will take place in Forum Karlín on April 22.

Alien: The Symphony will bring music from the 1979 film Alien and its sequels: Aliens, Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection, Alien v. Predator and, for the first time live, Prometheus. Filmová filharmonie and Kühn Choir will be conducted by Chuhei Iwasaki. The music will be accompanied by special effects.

Director Ridley Scott's Alien is a now classic British-American science-fiction horror film about survival in space. The film's score was written by Jerry Goldsmith, who won an Oscar for The Omen. He had 18 Oscar nominations in his lifetime. He passed away in 2004, leaving a huge body of work behind.

The other Alien films feature scores by composers James Horne for Aliens, Elliot Goldenthal for Alien 3, John Frizzell for Alien: Resurrection, Harald Kloser for Alien v. Predator, and Harry Gregson-Williams and Marc Streitenfeld for Prometheus. The exact pieces from each film have not been disclosed.

Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi will be in Prague for the first time for The World of Joe Hisaishi, conducting the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra at Forum Karlín on April 23.

Hisaishi is a long-time collaborator with Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli, which has turned out some impressive animation since the 1980s and is still active. Hisaishi has written music for animated films such as Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and Howl’s Moving Castle. He has also written for live action films for 'Beat' Takeshi Kitano. In total, he has scored over 100 films.

The Film Music Prague festival was established in 2014 and offers concerts, panel discussions and masterclasses. In the past, the festival has welcomed composers such as Fernando Velázquez, Rachel Portman, Jan Kaczmarek, Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper and Ilan Eshkeri.
