Faun to play MeetFactory
The band will play in the Czech Republic for the first time
German neo-medieval folk band Faun will play Prague's Meet Factory on June 16 as part of their 2017 summer tour. The band will play songs from their latest album called Midgard, released last summer, as well as from earlier works.
Faun is currently wrapping up the promotional tour for Midgard, which made it to the number three in German album charts, a considerable jump number 78 back in 2007 with their album Totem. The band will tour from June until November mostly through Germany, but will include Prague for the first time, as well as the Ragnard Rock Fest in France, and two dates in Russia, which will close the tour.
The band coined the term “pagan folk” in the early 2000s to define their music style, which combines traditional instruments with a desire to adhere to a natural lifestyle and revisit Europe's roots.
“This is rather a way of living,” band leader Oliver Pade, known as Sa Tyr, told online publication DarkSide. “People are awaking again to say that it’s very nice to go into the forest, to make a campfire, bonfire and to sit around and not to go to a disco. ... Sometimes people go to a medieval market and just think that 'OK, then I’ll stay.' So, the interest is growing and it’s like going, turning back to the roots.”
The band uses Celtic harps, bouzoukis and guitars, with flutes, bagpipes and traditional percussion, and their songs are often inspired in classical texts and sung in German, Latin, Greek, Hungarian and Scandinavian languages.
Faun was founded in 2002, has been nominated three times for Germany's most important music award, the Echo, and has released nine studio albums to date including Zaubersprüche (2002), Licht (2004), Renaissance (2005), Totem (2007), Buch der Balladen (2009), Eden (2011), Von den Elben (2013), Luna (2014) and Midgard (2016). There also two DVDs, Lichtbilder (2004) and Ornament (2007).
The band has played more than 900 concerts worldwide in acoustic and electric format in varied settings including theaters, churches, classical venues and outdoor festivals.
Tickets are on sale at Kč 600 in Midgard Bar at Jaromírova 245/53 on Prague 2 and Kč 660 via GoOut.cz.
