Prague Food Festival starting today

The festival will be at scenic Vysehrad again, offering tastes of top restaurants

The 12th edition of the Prague Food Festival, one of the most popular culinary events in the country, takes place this weekend, May 25–27 at Vysehrad. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste the dishes from 22 top restaurants selected from Maurer's Grand Restaurant.

Alongside them, there will be a rich selection of beverages and delicacies as well as music, cooking shows, workshops and lectures on a healthy diet.

"The aim of our festival is to present, besides high-level gastronomy, interesting places in Prague. That's why in the past we were in Kampa, Žofín on Slovanský ostrov, by Charles Bridge, or in the gardens of Prague Castle. Visitors to Vyšehrad will enjoy parks, orchards, baroque galleries, medieval and Romanesque buildings and charming views of Prague and Vltava this year,” festival founder Pavel Maurer said.

Visitors will have the chance to taste local and exotic dishes from renowned chefs, confectioners, ice cream makers, and domestic and exotic drinks at festival rates.

Every year the festival has a theme, and this time it is the 10 most interesting culinary trends of 2018. Guests will discover dishes for all senses, taste herbs and flowers popular with chefs, experience superfoods, go back in time for traditional foods from the First Republic and test a fusion kitchen where different global gastronomic trends blend.

There will be a competition to learn about food that looks different but also tastes different called Do you know what you eat? You don’t.

Prague Food Festival is visited by about 14,000 gourmands every year from all over the Czech Republic as well as from abroad.

This year will offer fusion cuisine from Aureole Fusion Restaurant & Lounge, the modern concept of Balu Kitchen, tradition combined with progressive European trends from Bellevue, venison specialties from Deer Prague, the flavor of the Orient from El Emir, delicious menus from the French restaurant Art Nouveau, Mediterranean-inspired cuisine from Fresherie Bistro, modern Vietnamese cuisine from Gao Den, local specialties from Chateau Mcely’s Piano Nobile, juicy meat and Asian specialties from Kobe, exotic flavors from La Bodeguita Del Medio, creative dishes by Le Grill in The Grand Mark Prague, among others

There will also be special festival menu in the style of the First Republic by the National Team of Chefs and Confectioners (AKC ČR), traditional Asian cuisine with respect to the tradition from Taro, meat and fresh fish from the Terasa Jordan, perfect harmony of flavors U Malířů 1543, traditional Czech cuisine V Zahradě, specialties from Zátiší, Japanese cuisine from Yoshihashi Sushi, modern Czech cuisine with a touch of France from Zámek Liblice, traditional recipes in a new design from Zámek Ratměřice’s Sequoia and great dishes not only from the grill will be prepared by Žofín Garden.

Beverage providers include Hennessy Cocktail Bar, Chateau Valtice, Bohemia Sekt, Veuve Clicquot Champagne Lounge and many others.

Tickets  include 10 grands, which is the currency of the festival. Food menus and other items are purchased with the grands, and prices for the menus vary. More grands can be purchased on site.
